Air Tank Inspection

Air tank inspection refers to the process of assessing the integrity and safety of compressed air tanks or vessels. Compressed air tanks are commonly used in various industries and applications to store and supply compressed air for pneumatic systems, tools, and equipment.

The inspection of air tanks is crucial to ensure their structural integrity, prevent potential failures, and maintain a safe working environment. Regular inspections are typically performed in compliance with industry standards, regulations, and manufacturer guidelines. Here are some key aspects covered in air tank inspections:

  • Visual Inspection: A visual examination is conducted to check for any visible signs of damage, corrosion, dents, cracks, or leaks on the exterior surface of the tank. This includes inspecting welds, fittings, valves, and connections for any signs of wear or deterioration.
  • Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) uses ultrasonic waves to detect flaws, such as cracks or thinning of the tank wall, and measure the thickness of the tank material.
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) or Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Used to detect surface or near-surface defects.
  • Radiographic Testing (RT): RT uses X-rays or gamma rays to inspect the internal structure of the tank for defects or abnormalities. It provides detailed images that can reveal hidden flaws and discontinuities.
  • Pressure Test: Periodic pressure testing is conducted to evaluate the tank’s ability to withstand the required operating pressure. This involves pressurizing the tank to a specified test pressure and monitoring for any pressure loss or deformation.

It is important to involve qualified and trained inspectors or technicians who are knowledgeable about the applicable regulations and inspection techniques. Following inspection, any necessary repairs, maintenance, or component replacements should be carried out to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the air tank.
